Manglisi in winter

Winter in Manglisi is a different planet. While Tbilisi is damp and grey, just an hour away lies a snow-white pine forest, smoke rising straight up from chimneys, every branch covered in a snowy hat. Probably the most underrated season here.

What kind of winter

Snow usually lies stably from December to March, especially on the upper forest tiers. January is the coldest month — nights can drop to −10…−15 °C, days are usually −2…+3 °C. Enough snow falls to make the forest look magical.

Why winter

  • Absolute silence. Snow muffles every sound except the crunch underfoot.
  • Crystal air. Pine scent in the frost is especially sharp.
  • No tourists. Manglisi is yours.
  • The views. Snowy pines and Trialeti mountains — a postcard.
  • The price. Off-season discounts are at their best.

What to do

  • Walks in the pine grove during snowfall.
  • Barbecue in the yard on snow — yes, it works, and it's magical.
  • Trip to Sioni cathedral — it looks especially atmospheric in winter.
  • Mulled wine by the TV while it snows outside.
  • A photoshoot — the winter forest is a ready-made studio.

Isn't it cold in the cottage?

No. The cottage has central heating running constantly. Electricity, gas, water, internet, TV — all stable. Bedding is warm, the bed is comfortable. In the morning you can step into the yard with a cup of tea — and come back to +24 °C.

New Year and Christmas

Georgian Christmas is on 7 January, and in Manglisi it's special. Bells of Sioni cathedral, snow in the yard, a lit fire — real holidays you remember for years. Book for New Year well in advance — 1–2 months ahead.
