The pine forest — Manglisi's main treasure
If Manglisi has one symbol, it's the pine forest. It surrounds the village in a tight ring, climbs the slopes of the Trialeti range, and merges with the pristine relict massifs of Algeti National Park.
What grows here
The forest here is multi-tiered — a rarity for the Caucasus. Among the dominant species:
- Hooked pine — the source of the resin scent and pollen.
- Eastern beech — gives coolness and shade.
- Caucasian fir — symbol of Algeti park, a protected rare species.
- Oak, hornbeam, rowan — at lower tiers.
The central pine grove
The pride of the village is the central pine grove. A neatly maintained park among century-old pines, with paths, benches and perfect silence. From our cottage it's just 100 metres away: 2 minutes in slippers.
Why people come here
- Morning walks — the best moment, when the air fills with resin scent.
- Yoga and meditation — locals often practise here.
- Photography — pine trunks in side-light give incredible shots.
- Cone gathering — for the fireplace, for crafts with kids.
- Just lying down — on the pine carpet, looking up at the canopy.
What to know
The forest is protected. No fires, no cutting branches, no littering. But you can pick berries, mushrooms (in autumn!) and breathe the cleanest air — without limits.
